ARTISTIC DEVELOPMENT
The residency is designed to support participants in:
– Developing new or existing solo and quartet performance projects
– Clarifying the historical, artistic, technical, and methodological premises of their practices
– Examining the relations among breath, body, instrument, notation, repertoire, technology, and space
– Receiving precise interpretative, technical, analytical, and critical feedback
– Expanding methods of rehearsal, listening, documentation, and artistic research
– Refining tone, articulation, intonation, balance, phrasing, timing, and formal projection where relevant to the project
– Developing lecture-performances, laboratories, recordings, writings, and other research formats
– Understanding performance and rehearsal as sites of knowledge production
– Preparing work for public presentation within an international festival
Artistic development proceeds through sustained activity, reciprocal critique, experimentation, documentation, and reflection. The residency values not only polished public outcomes, but also clarified methods, transformed assumptions, and newly articulated forms of embodied and collective knowledge.
