[confictura.norma.x] I.

CENTRAL QUESTIONS

The residency may support questions such as:

– What forms of knowledge are generated through breath, gesture, listening, rehearsal, interpretation, and performance?

– How do instrument design, reeds, mouthpieces, technologies, and acoustic spaces condition artistic decisions?

– Which histories and pedagogies remain active within contemporary saxophone technique?

– How do scores, recordings, teachers, manufacturers, and institutions distribute interpretative authority?

– How are individual difference and collective coherence negotiated within a saxophone quartet?

– When does technical resistance become a source of artistic knowledge?

– How can recording and documentation contribute to, rather than merely preserve, performance research?

– How may historical inquiry generate future-oriented methods, repertoires, and modes of listening?

– What assumptions organize prevailing ideals of tone, virtuosity, precision, blend, and expression?

– How can saxophone performance critically engage the conditions of its own production?

These questions are indicative rather than mandatory. They define the level of artistic, historical, technical, methodological, and critical inquiry the residency is designed to sustain.
